Here’s more information on the NFL playoff photo heading into Week 18, according to the Associated Press:

When Eric Church sang “having a banner year,” he wasn’t referring to the NFL.

The country music star could have been.

For the 2021 season which ends this weekend with the first 17-game series in league history, a series of benchmarks are about to be set. Great records too.

Start with the most successful quarterback in NFL history, naturally. Tom Brady leads in completed passes (456), passing yards (4,990) and touchdowns (40). Brady of Tampa Bay is a short distance away from the single-season records for passing yards (Peyton Manning’s 5,477 for Denver in 2013) and completed passes (Drew Brees, 471 for New Orleans in 2016). Brady, of course, has that extra game to hunt Manning and Brees.

The Rams’ Cooper Kupp leads in receptions with 138, receiving yards (1829) and touchdown receptions (15) this season and is a short distance from the single-season record for most receptions and hits. receiving yards. The Michael Thomas of the Saints, who won the offensive player of the year award in 2019 with 149 catches, holds this mark.

Kupp will need a big game against San Francisco to reach the Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson’s 2012 Hall of Famer record of 1,964. Kupp is at 1,829.

“The most important thing is that we win the game, lock in the division title and be ready to make the playoffs here,” Kupp said, “but that would be a really cool thing because of the respect I have for them. players in this league and the talent there is, it’s a tough thing to do.

All records are difficult to achieve. If Brady gets you started, however, expanding a standard you’ve already set might be easier.

Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans enters this week with 946 receiving yards. With 54 against Carolina on Sunday, Evans will become the first player with at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first eight seasons.

It’s something Bengals rookie Ja’Marr Chase might, well, chase as he goes. Last week, Chase had 266 receiving yards, the most in a single game by a rookie. He now has 1,429 yards this season, surpassing Justin Jefferson of Minnesota’s 1,400 in 2020, a mark from the Super Bowl era. With 45 more yards in Cleveland on Sunday, he will surpass Bill Groman’s 1,473 yards of the Houston Oilers in 1960 for the all-time rookie record.

In this season of spectacular new arrivals at receiver, Miami’s Jaylen waddles seems bound for the record books. Waddle’s 99 receptions are second by a rookie, and with three more, he will beat the 2003 standard set by Arizona’s Anquan Boldin.

Getting tight ends in the mix, Atlanta Kyle pitts to 1,018 yards all year round. If he gets 59 against New Orleans, Pitts would explode for Hall of Famer Mike Ditka’s most 1,076 number in 1961.

On the other side of the ball, the sack mark set by Hall of Famer Michael Strahan – and aided by the downfall of Brett Favre – could drop when the Steelers face the Ravens. With 1 1/2 bags in Baltimore, TJ Watt will break Strahan’s 2001 record of 22 1/2. The statistic became official in 1982.

With two sacks in Philadelphia on Saturday night, the Cowboys’ Micah Parsons can beat Tennessee’s Jevon Kearse, who had 14 1/2 in 1999 for most sacks by a rookie. But Parsons has been added to Dallas’ COVID-19 reserve list.

A more obscure mark could belong to Carson Wentz. The Indianapolis quarterback has 10 touchdown passes and no interceptions in seven starts on the road. With no interceptions at Jacksonville on Sunday, Wentz will become the first quarterback to start eight road games in a season without an interception throw.

Yes, the NFL seems to have a record for everything these days.

As expected with his hint of retirement earlier in the week, future Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is starting to garner praise for his legendary career on the court.

ESPN analyst Damien Woody and former New England Patriots, Detroit Lions and New York Jets offensive lineman took the time to congratulate Roethlisberger on Thursday, calling him one of the true warriors. of the QB position in NFL history.

Appearing on The first ESPN take on Thursday, Woody, along with his co-host Sam Acho – who previously sacked Roethlisberger as a member of the Arizona Cardinals – took the time to end Roethlisberger’s career after the 18-year-old quarterback had said Monday’s game against the Cleveland Browns at Heinz Field is likely the last time he will play in front of home fans.

Woody, who played on Jets teams that had real battles with Roethlisberger from 2008-2010, said no matter how stoned Roethlisberger was he was always on the pitch to give the Steelers a chance while representing black and gold in the fashion that the franchise has always envisioned playing.

“In my opinion, we’re talking about a guy who has played the game like the Steelers have always played throughout their history, their franchise,” said Woody. “It’s a big, hard and strong arm. You can always count on his presence. There were a few weeks throughout his career where we in the media would tease, ‘Is Big Ben going to play? Because he always seemed to bring up injuries, but somehow he always found a way to be there and be there with his teammates playing football. inside and outside the pocket.

“If it does, if it does, he’s had one hell of a career,” added Woody. “I tip my hat at Big Ben because he was truly one of the warriors we saw at quarterback.”

He was truly one of the warriors of the position. Hearing this reminds me of the broken foot he played on, the broken nose he suffered against the Baltimore Ravens on a blow from Haloti Ngata, not to mention injuries to his shoulder, ribs, chest. ankle and countless other bumps and bruises in the future The Hall of Fame has been instrumental in his journey to racking up an 18-year career filled with countless individual accolades.

It might have been a week after a lot of expectations and everyone wanted it, but the first job was done – the Buccaneers won the division and hit their 2021 ticket. nfl playoffs. It wasn’t since Jeff Garcia was under center and Joey Galloway was capturing deep passes that the Bucs held the NFC South Championship title, but they accomplished just that with the 32-6 victory over the Carolina Panthers in what was likely Cam Newton’s last game in front of Panthers fans as a quarterback.

Let’s choose six.

Six topics suitable for conversation

1.) Overcome adversity. The offensive was far from what one could qualify as “pretty” Sunday, despite the unbalanced score. However, they managed to do enough to score over 30 points yet again – thanks in large part to Ryan Succop’s leg. However, that’s no reason to worry or worry about the Bucs’ offense. A big part of this game was figuring out what they could and couldn’t do without Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Leonard Fournette. With Antonio Brown moving things forward as the top receiver, Ronald Jones and Ke’Shawn Vaughn making great offensive contributions and Cameron Brate being the tight end to step up, the offense will play very well in the last row. law. The Panthers made Rob Gronkowski’s removal a big part of their game plan, but Tom Brady had no problem using both Brate and OJ Howard. Against the NFL’s second-best defense in yards allowed, the Bucs racked up nearly 400. It’s just a matter of finishing. Also, don’t forget that Evans and Fournette will be back. Once they have Evans and AB as a 1-2 punch and Fournette runs behind a line made up of 60% Pro Bowlers, the offense won’t have a huge drop off from what we’ve seen a much of the season.

2.) Hi, defense. The Buccaneers’ defense hasn’t allowed any touchdowns since the fourth quarter against the Bison tickets. Sadly, they failed to win against New Orleans despite the defense’s outstanding performance, but it’s a good sign to move forward. No, they haven’t staged high octane infractions outside the end zone, but go back a year. The defense made its way against some teams in the final quarter of the season against some lackluster infractions as well. Sometimes all you have to do is set a rhythm and then no matter how much attacking level you play – you impose your will on them and dominate. Now it looks like the Bucs are starting to hit that pace. They sacked Carolina quarterbacks seven times, got an interception and held them 7-for-18 in third downs. During the first half, the Panthers had no yardage on their ball carriers. They certainly have a great opportunity to extend that streak of keeping teams out of the end zone next week against the New York Jets.

3.) Have a day, Jordan. The emergence of Jordan Whitehead is one of the main reasons the defense played so well. Whitehead seemed to have his name invoked in pretty much every room. He forced Newton into a William Gholston sack in the first quarter, had an interception, finished with a team-high of seven tackles, as well as a team-high of three defended. In the absence of Antoine Winfield Jr., Whitehead was the high school star and not only made plays in the passing game, but smashed the surface to stop Carolina’s running game. If he plays like that in the playoffs, the Bucs’ defense is going to be terrifying.

4.) Ok, I’ll eat the crow. I haven’t been overly critical here, but on the Locked On Bucs podcast, I’ve really given Ronald Jones heartache this season for not looking good or for taking advantage of the little opportunities he has had. Now there is no doubt that his opportunity was limited due to the quality of his game from Fournette, but I felt RoJo almost pout and send it in the mail when he got the chance to play . I was wrong. As the leader of the Bucs, RoJo finished with 65 yards on 20 carries – which is an unimpressive 3.3 yards per carry – but he played much better than that. He was hit for little or no gain late in the game when the Bucs were in “time out” mode. RoJo was constantly breaking large chunks of yards early on and making the offensive yards difficult and shifting the chains. It looked like the RoJo of 2020 and that’s exactly what you wanted to see. Fournette’s fresh legs helped a lot late last year and into the playoffs, so you have to hope that history will repeat itself just with the players switching places.

5.) No more unfortunate news to watch. Shaquil Barrett, who got a double-digit sack once again, left the game late in the first half with an injury. Now he has returned for the first set of the second half before returning and being sent off with a knee injury. After the game, Bruce Arians said it appears Barrett is suffering from a minor MCL injury, but will undergo further testing on Monday. A slight MCL seems like good news all things considered, but keep in mind that after last week’s game the team believed Godwin had avoided a major injury. You hope they’re right this time around and it’s not another situation where we think Barrett will be back just to find out he’s on the shelf for an extended period of time.

6.) Enjoy it. After so much heartbreak as Saints fans shared last week, enjoy it. The Buccaneers are 11-4, in line to go 13-4, and have won the division. There should be a lot of excitement and happiness among the Tampa Bay devotees. Keep in mind that most of these key players are coming back (and I hope no one else gets hurt), so things will continue to improve. And once the playoffs begin, there are plenty of players in that locker room who know exactly what it takes to get to the top of the mountain.

Six numbers to consider

1 – Earn away from matching the franchise record for wins in one season

4 – Players with multiple double-digit sack seasons for the Bucs – Barrett, Simeon Rice (5), Warren Sapp (3) and Lee Roy Selmon (4)

530 – The yards Brady needed in the last two games to break the Bucs single-season record for passing yards in one season

3 – Cameron Brate’s rank on Bucs all-time list for receiving touchdowns after passing Kevin House on Sunday

19 – Years since the Buccaneers appeared in back-to-back playoffs

143 – Consecutive games Antonio Brown played where he received reception – longest active streak in the NFL

Six best tweets

This one is fun on many levels. First of all, have some self-awareness. You lose 26 with less than 2 minutes to play and land for a first try. Second, watch Antonio Brown’s reaction while on the stationary bike. Hilarious.

Playoff scenario

Ok, not a list of six, but some important information to convey. At this point, all Bucs fans need to do – aside from the Bucs who win their last two – is root for a loss to the Rams. A loss for the Rams means the Buccaneers are tied with the Dallas Cowboys where the Buccaneers hold the head-to-head tiebreaker and would get the second seed. The Rams still play in Baltimore and at home against the 49ers. Either game could be a loss, but the Baltimore game looks more likely if the Ravens get Lamar Jackson back. Division games are always tough and in their first meeting this year the Rams were outscored by San Francisco 31-10. Even if the Cardinals won, they would be one game behind the Bucs. So, for the next two weeks, your second favorite teams are the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers.

1.) Green Bay Packers – NFC first seed, holding on after narrow Christmas win

2.) Kansas City Chiefs – Uh. How did we get there after the start of the season?

3.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Win in the face of adversity with the return of many impact players

4.) Dallas Cowboys – Could prove problematic in the playoffs

5.) Indianapolis Colts – Winners of six of their last seven with an MVP candidate in their backfield. Make noise at the right time

6.) Bison bills – Start to look like who we thought they were

Last six words

The new season starts in two weeks

I wish I could remember the name of the person who served the quote, “Christmas: the only time of year you can sit in front of a dead tree eating candy with socks on.” Very good quote. I to do Know that it was Bart Simpson who said, “Are we not forgetting the true meaning of Christmas? You know, the birth of Santa Claus.

I know, I know – for many of us there is so much stress on vacation that sometimes it doesn’t even seem worth it. Every now and then, however, we are reminded that the season is for joy, hope and giving.

Not that I ever needed another reason to love our Boston Bruins, but here’s another reason. On Wednesday, several Bruins players took to a Target store in Boston to do some holiday shopping for hundreds of hospitalized children.

According to The Boston Bruins Facebook page, Santa Pasta, merry old Saint Bergeron and several of their teammates are seen in video and photos loading their shopping carts with a slew of gifts and holiday happiness.

For the Bruins, shopping for the kids who can’t celebrate the holidays at home with their families is part of an annual tradition. And, believe it or not, the annual Holiday Toy Shopping event was started years ago by Bruins Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque.

Some of the hospitals that have received donations in the past include Boston Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children, Tufts Medical Center Floating Children’s Hospital, etc.

A word of warning everyone: these gifts will not be delivered by reindeer. They will be delivered by bears. Thanks, B’s! You guys are the best. Happy Holidays!

Andrew Copp chuckled, then rolled his eyes.

He swiveled back and forth in the Matt Frost Media Center as if to collect his thoughts. Then Copp leaned forward and shared his side of the truth.

“I mean, a lot of his costumes are really cool. He’s doing pretty well. “

Evgeny Svechnikov intervened.

“I think it just tastes good. And a lot of style too.

This is, of course, Adam Lowry, the new No.1 on the Athletic NHL Style Power Rankings.

He’s a man of notorious taste, with a wide variety of hats and, according to our Sara Civian, the most stylish man in the NHL last week.

Civian started the NHL-style power rankings to celebrate the loosening of dress codes in the league and to appreciate players who are ready to think big and be bold with their fashion.

“Anytime you think he won’t be able to outperform his latest look, he does,” Civian writes of Lowry’s astounding array of jumpsuit suits. “The range is breathtaking. “

Copp is a longtime friend of Lowry’s. Svechnikov is just getting to know him.

Both agree with Civian – and both share the same take on what makes Lowry’s style vibrate.

“I’m not a hat guy,” Copp said. “(But) I think that’s what puts him at the top in terms of adding to this style.”

“Hats, like (Andrew) said,” Svechnikov repeated. “I think that takes him to the top.”

We’ll let Lowry speak for himself in a moment.

He will tell us where he was and which teammates he was with when he first discovered his love of hats.

“Hats off” to the Cowboys defense in the win over MIN; Dallas has a chance to win against anyone https://ravensshopnfl.com/hats-off-to-the-cowboys-defense-in-the-win-over-min-dallas-has-a-chance-to-win-against-anyone/ Tue, 02 Nov 2021 07:00:00 +0000 https://ravensshopnfl.com/hats-off-to-the-cowboys-defense-in-the-win-over-min-dallas-has-a-chance-to-win-against-anyone/ Former Cowboys quarterback and current Fox broadcaster Troy Aikman recently appeared on The Musers on 96.7 FM / 1310 AM The Ticket [KTCK-AM]. Former Cowboys quarterback and current Fox broadcaster Troy Aikman recently appeared on The Musers on 96.7 FM / 1310 AM The Ticket [KTCK-AM]. Here are some of the highlights, edited for clarity:

When the Cowboys won against the Vikings …

Aikman: “Yes, it was a great victory at all levels. Going to Minnesota with your backup quarterback, and what is that going to look like, are you going to be able to pull one off? And they could. What they needed for [do], they did, and most of it was defensive. Just keep the score low and give them an offensive chance not to be great – or as explosive as they sure are with Dak. [Prescott] – but I thought everyone was doing a really good job, including the staff. Because this Minnesota offense, they rode pretty well, racked up a lot of yards and did a lot of really good things. So, for that defense, shutting them down pretty much was really impressive.

“We talked about it. I think this defense is better than what they’re credited with, and they played the kind of game they were meant to play. So many talks Cooper Rush has had, and rightly – really happy for him, what a great time to make his first start and be able to come out with a win in a really tough environment – but, defense, hats on them.

How short the windows of success are in today’s NFL …

Aikman: “I think even when you look at the teams that have maintained success, which is why it’s been impressive with Aaron Rodgers over the years, his supporting cast has changed. Russell Wilson’s supporting cast has changed. … So you have to take advantage of it when you have these type of players around you at that time. …

“That’s why, even coming back to Dallas, this offense is really good. There are some very good players. There really aren’t any real weaknesses in it, and the defense plays with the confidence that you would hate not to take advantage of an opportunity even though it’s mid-season, and [there’s] a lot of football [left]. But I agree with where we started the conversation with what this team is capable of, they have shown that. They have already shown it against the best teams. I would pit them against anyone and give them a chance to win the game.

On Dak Prescott forced to sit against the Vikings…

Aikman: “I thought about what Dak said, I heard his comments about wanting to play, but he also trusted the coaches and the coaches. I thought he answered the questions very well. Now if you ask me, “Do I think Dak wanted to play?” My guess is, yeah. I guess it’s backstage, he was doing everything he could to try and play. … But I know he has a good relationship with the coaching staff, and I think it’s important to believe that these guys are going to make a decision that’s part of it – that they know as a player that you do. want to play, and they’ll do whatever they can to let you play, but if it’s too risky, they’ll shut you down. And I think it probably has as much to do with it as anything.
